Gender exploration and identity development, including support for non-binary identities
Many individuals explore their gender identity through experimenting with appearance, clothing, makeup, hairstyles, or behaviors. Exploring gender identity is a normal and healthy part of self-discovery and does not necessarily indicate that someone is transgender or non-binary. However, some individuals may experience psychological distress during this process. Our compassionate, gender-affirming team provides support to individuals experiencing gender dysphoria or other mental health challenges related to gender exploration. To learn more or schedule a confidential consultation, call us today or book an in-person or telehealth appointment online.
Gender dysphoria occurs when there is a disconnect between a person’s biological sex and gender identity, leading to feelings of discomfort or distress. This may result in depression, anxiety, or challenges in daily functioning. Many individuals with gender dysphoria feel a strong, persistent desire to live in alignment with their gender identity, often through changes in appearance, behavior, or social presentation.
Gender dysphoria is not a mental illness, but it can contribute to mental health concerns. Gender exploration therapy provides a safe environment to address emotional well-being while exploring identity in a supportive and structured way.
Gender-affirming therapy is a holistic, individualized approach that supports clients in exploring gender identity while addressing associated mental health concerns, such as depression, anxiety, and stress. Our therapists are trained to differentiate gender dysphoria from other mental health conditions and can coordinate care with psychiatrists when medication is indicated.

A WPATH (World Professional Association for Transgender Health) Standards of Care letter is often required for gender-affirming medical treatments to confirm that care is medically necessary following thorough psychological evaluation. Depending on the provider or insurance requirements, WPATH letters may be needed for:
Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT): Some clinics follow informed consent models, but many still require a WPATH letter to begin or continue hormone therapy.
Gender-Affirming Surgeries (GAS): This includes top surgery (chest reconstruction), bottom surgery (genital reconstruction), facial feminization/masculinization surgery, voice surgery, and other procedures that align physical appearance with gender identity.
Other procedures such as body contouring, hair restoration, and tracheal shave.
Before requesting a WPATH letter, it is important to verify insurance requirements, as documentation is often necessary for coverage and to navigate medical systems effectively.
We provide a supportive, affirming space for anyone exploring their gender identity, helping individuals manage emotional challenges and access appropriate resources.
